Body Positive North West Building Project

Designed by Dutch 2010

In November 2009 after months of planning15 Dutch students and 4 tutors arrived at BPNW to join the 6 strong Building Project Team, launching an exciting international piece of work. ‘From Ruins to Dream House’ will landscape the external space and re-design the internal space. So, with a little help from Dutch designers we aim to improve and expand on our facility.

Please get involved and have your say!

We believe our centre is one of our major assets after our clients. It is open 6 days a week and offers a wide range of activities. This innovative project aims to maximise the charity’s centre even more in Whalley Range, both for our existing clients and the local community.

The students arrived and began by measuring the building from top to toe,  interviewing key stakeholders on possible use of the site. The students, who are in their third year of an Architect and Design course at Nijmejen University will, after further consultation with both staff, service users and local community submit a selection of designs for scrutiny.

So, if we are to turn dreams into goals- and goals into reality we’d like you to get involved! The future plans involve the design students being around the centre four times throughout 2010, each time for a week the next is between 22nd and 26th February 2010.

You are invited to listen to their thoughts on Wednesday February 24th 2010 at 9.00 – 10.30 hours. We will have a presentation of 3 Indoor designs and 3 Outdoor designs to everyone at present at BPNW (to be videotaped, rated and evaluate by the teachers). These designs will then be available on the web for comments. The design selected will be the one that maximises space and best serves the needs of BPNW and all its service users.

The student’s final visit will be in July 2010. The home based project team is led by Jamie and Alvin will be on site at all other times. So, please do come and give them your support, input and if any of you have skills that may be of use, please contact a member of the building project team.

We aim to update the web to keep you informed so, either click on our web www.bpnw.org.uk  or for any further information please contact Emma at info@bpnw.org.uk

Project Schedule

Message from students of Helicon Opleidingen, Nijmegen the Netherlands

"Here we are, the students In-& Outdoor Design from Helicon Opleidingen, Nijmegen the Netherlands. We are going to redesign the premises of Body Positive North West (BPNW) in Manchester. Simply explained, we are going to restyle the interior and garden. So it will become a great place after we are finished. We are very enthusiastic about this project. We all know we can learn a lot, not only for our skills but also for our personal growth.

We look forward to meet you all!"
