• Some clinics have a "walk-in and wait" service, where you can turn up without an appointment. Others are appointment only. Contact them first to find out about your visit and to see what times they are open.

• You do not have to use a clinic near to where you live; it’s ok to go to one further away.

• It's anonymous, free and confidential - you don’t have to use your real name when you register at a genito-urinary medicine (GUM clinic).

Most clinics also offer a full range of sexual health services, including other tests to see if you have a sexually transmitted infection (STI), as well as free condoms, lube, and contraception etc.
