What happens at BPNW's Clinic?
- When you arrive one of our experienced team will welcome you
- We discuss the whole process for the test so you know what is going to happen
- We ask you to sign a consent form so that we know you understand everything and we accept the consent
- We make a finger prick test to get a drop of blood from your finger and making of the test part is over.
- We wait 60 seconds for a result. You can watch the reaction occur. We give you your results there and then.
- If the test is non-reactive we will discuss with how to carry on having safer sex so that you reduce your chances of being exposed in the future. We can provide you with condoms
What if my test is reactive?
- If your test result shows reactive you will be referred quickly to a clinic near to where you live so
- they can make a further test to confirm.
- We will discuss before you leave us all the implications of receiving a positive result and go through
- Lots of options for support and other services available to help you.
What if my test is indeterminate?
- Occasionally for a number of reasons a test may fail to give a clear negative/reactive result.
- We will fast-track you for a venous blood test to confirm your HIV status.
