Body Positive brings sparkle back to defaced HIV memorial

This coming weekend the gay village hosts Sparkle, one of the world’s largest transgender celebrations.

As a consequence local HIV charity Body Positive North West has been out in the gay village cleaning graffiti from the HIV memorial, the Beacon of Hope in Sackville Park.

It’s a sad reality that twenty five years after the identification of the HIV virus memorials such as this one are still regularly vandalised.

Manchester City Council is vigilant in maintaining the memorial and on this occasion Body Positive, an organisation that has been providing HIV services for people living with HIV for over 21 years now has stepped forward to bring the sparkle back.

Manchester has the second largest number of people living with HIV in England and Wales.
